Back to where I started

Well when I started my blog back in January I was making porringers. In March I oiled them up, here they are.

And now they have all been sold so I have to make more. Today I parceled up the last 6 for a customer and also cut up another big lump of beech to make more. I shall be out of porringers till after Christmas though. They were a really nice batch and I like to think of all those folk out there enjoying eating their breakfast out of them.

I'm glad business is going well over there. Your work is beautiful.

How many bowls do you make in one batch?

A batch is a funny sort of concept really. I buy a tree or cut some slabs from a big tree then work my way through it then get some more. I tend to make just one type of item out of each log that I cut, that is the most efficient way. The porringers are made from a large 250 year old beech tree full of character. I maybe make 50 or so before moving on to plates or whatever I feel like doing or whatever the next log suggests.
