On the 8th of June as a thank you to all my regular blog readers and folk that post comments and send emails keeping me inspired I offered a free bowl which I would send to someone randomly chosen from those replying to the blog post. I was astonished that 73 folk responded, the bowl is now dried and finished, it's a sycamore porringer copied from an original that was excavated in Southwark about 10 years ago. It being Elizabethan in date and the find site just round the corner from the Globe I like to think of these as my Shakespeare bowl and I eat my breakfast from one every day.
73 was a few too many names to write and put in a hat so I used the random number generator http://www.random.org/
The answer 29, I counted down 29 posts and was just about to email "A reader" when I noticed one of the posts was mine so the bowl is on it's way to Peter Follansbee in the US, and as a great admirer of Peter's work I am delighted that it is going to such a good home. I have also experimented with darkening some of the sycamore porringers with various food based dyes, coffee is always a favourite but caramel seems to work very well too.
