This first film is from a workshop I visited in 2000, I was still on a film camera then and my pictures are all slides so it was a treat to find this nice film of the ring turning process online. This is the workshop of Christian Werner of Seiffen a master ring turner. If you have not heard of ring turning before watch and be amazed. I had a go on one of the lathes and it is not easy.First a few images.
Seiffen is a small town where most of the inhabitants make their living one way or another from woodturning quite amazing.
Next up a lovely film about a saw maker, just amazing how fast these saws cut. I love to see anyone who has taken something that could be done reasonably well and just taken it to a different level to be the best they can possibly be.
Thanks for the videos, Robin. I am amazed at the skill of the ring turners. What vision they must have to achieve the proper profile, right down to the location of the ears. I also see that I've got to give my crosscut saw a sharpening right away!

Had a tree fall in the yard from Sandy. That saw looked faster than me with a chainsaw.
